Principal's Piece

Welcome to Week 8! Our students and staff have all settled back into routines and our classes are working hard learning new curriculum to finish the semester. I enjoyed visiting several classrooms last week. In Year 6, I walked back into the 1930’s as they are learning about changes in our way of life over the decades; Year 3 were investigating number sequences, adding 10 more and 10 less; Year 2 were learning about telling the time and Preps were sequencing and retelling Fairytales. The engagement in all classrooms was fabulous to see.

Cleaner’s Day

This Friday we acknowledge and celebrate our wonderful ‘Clean Team’ at Calliope State School. We are incredibly fortunate at Calliope SS, to have an amazing group of cleaners work tirelessly around the school, especially over this last term, keeping us healthy and safe. Thank you ladies for all that you do around our school to make it sparkle!

Premier’s Reading Challenge
Calliope School has participated in the Premier’s Reading Challenge since it began in 2006. It is a fabulous way to promote the importance of reading and reading books for enjoyment. I had the pleasure of reading in several classrooms recently and enjoyed sharing stories with the students and then engaging in conversations relating to what was read.
Students will complete their forms at school this year, recording books they read at school as well as those they read at home. We have until August to complete the challenge. There will be weekly prize draws, so once you complete your form, make sure you let Mrs Kettle know!
Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Month

On Friday 29 May, we acknowledged the Domestic and Family Violence Prevention month by wearing purple to school. Thank you to everyone who participated. We raised $174.85 for the Coordinated Community Response to Family and Domestic Violence group.

Hand Hygiene

With the increased level of hand washing and hand sanitizing, we realise some students may find this is irritating their hands. Students are able to bring hand moisturizer to school for their personal use only or bring their own soap to use. Any personal hand care items brought to school are not to be shared with other students.

Contact Details

As email and phone are the preferred communication modes at the moment, it is important that your contact details are up to date. If you have had any changes to your details, including numbers for your emergency contacts, please update the

details with the office.

As our reports cards will be sent home via email (early in Term 3), make sure you have a preferred email address also listed with the office.

We are always open to feedback as this helps our school to continuously grow and improve. There are many appropriate ways to provide feedback to our school and we appreciate the time and effort people have taken to ensure they are using these avenues. At the present time, the most effective means to communicate and share this with us is via our email admin@calliopess.eq.edu.au or phone the office on 4975 8333.
