Principal's Message
Welcome to Week Two – Life Education lessons have continued this week and teachers are facilitating interviews for all parents. Whilst your child’s report card gives you a record of how your child is achieving, it is at the interview you will be able to discuss their achievement in greater detail and how you can help at home to assist with increased learning.
Last night our monthly P&C was held and many items were discussed with a focus on the best outcomes and opportunities for all students at Calliope State School.
Student Code of Conduct
Each week I will focus on an aspect of Calliope’s Student Code of Conduct. This week the focus is Intensive Responses.
School leadership team work in consultation with Student Support Network to address persistent or ongoing serious problem behaviour. This may include:
- Functional Behaviour Assessment based individual support plan
- Complex case management and review
- Stakeholder meeting with parents and external agencies including regional specialists
- Temporary removal of student property (e.g. mobile phone)
- Intensive Check in-Check out program
- Alternative Timetable
- Discipline Improvement Plan
- Short term suspension (up to 10 school days)
- Long term suspension (up to 20 school days)
- Charge related suspension (student has been charged with a serious criminal offence is suspended from school until the charge has been dealt with by the relevant justice authorities)
- Suspension pending exclusion (student is suspended from school pending a decision by the Director-General or delegate (principal) about their exclusion from school)
- Exclusion (student is excluded from a particular state school site, a group of state schools or all state schools in Queensland for a defined period of time or permanently)
- Cancellation of enrolment for students older than compulsory school age who refuse to participate in the educational program provided at the school.
Parent Survey
A reminder that our CSS survey closes today. To date we have had 90 responses.
As a reminder, this survey will reflect your opinions on Term 2. This survey will dig deeper into how we can best meet the needs of our community. There will also be consultation with our community to see if there is support for a chaplain and/or student wellbeing officer in our school. We are also seeking your opinions on how to improve student wellbeing in the school and your opinion on the use of technologies in our school.
We are seeking consultation regarding our application for funding for continued Chaplaincy/Student Wellbeing Officer in our school. Although we don’t have a person in the role now, if we don’t apply for funding, we won’t be able to fill this role in the future when someone amazing does apply. This position is not about religion, it is about supporting our students. School chaplains or wellbeing support officers, support young people and provide a safe, positive influence for our children. Often this person would provide extra activities in lunchtimes, focused small group programs, assistance on school camps, and assistance on our breakfast mornings, just to name a few.
We are also seeking your ideas on how to better improve our supports regarding wellbeing of our students. We have some funding which can focus on this aspect of school life and would like parent opinions.
Please know that the platform used for these surveys, “Survey Monkey” keeps your identity private. The school does not know your individual replies. I have been open in sharing our last survey whit our P&C executive. The survey in anonymous.
All parents should have received this email and a reminder. If you have not please check your junk mail or give the school a call.
New Technologies for Classrooms
All Prep and Year One Classrooms will be receiving an updated interactive board to their classrooms in Week Three of this term. The library will also have a board so that all classes can access this technology. Over the next few years, we anticipate to roll out a device or devices across the school. This board is an 85” ActivPanel V9 Premium on a moveable stand that height adjustable. Teachers have been busy in both their own time and in-school time learning how to best use these board in preparation for their arrival. In addition to this the school hall will be having a multimedia revamp with new screens, projectors, and sound system.
